2007 FIFA World Player of the Year, Current Brazilian National Team Midfielder Visited Orlando City Training Friday Morning
ORLANDO, Fla.--Soccer superstar and Real Madrid (La Liga) Midfielder Ricardo Kaká visited Orlando City’s training at the Seminole Soccer Complex in Sanford, Fla., Friday morning. Kaká has been visiting Orlando, including stops at Disney World earlier in the week, with him ending the week watching the Lions’ practice.
Kaká is a personal friend of Orlando City Owner/Investor Flavio Augusto da Silva, fellow Brazilian. He is also a spokesperson for Wise Up, Brazil’s leading English language school, consisting of over 400 locations in five countries. Mr. da Silva leads the Wise Up Group, which is part of one of Brazil’s largest media companies, Abril Educação.
Kaká began his professional career with Sao Paulo in 2001, signing his pro contract at the age of 15. After 58 appearances and 23 goals for São Paulo, the Brazilian native signed with Italian club AC Milan (Serie A) where he became known as one of the world’s greatest players.
During his time with AC Milan, he earned multiple accolades, including: Serie A Player of the Year (2004), UEFA Champions League Top Scorer and Best Forward (2007), FIFA World Player of the Year (2007), Ballon d’Or (2007) and Time 100’s most influential people (2008). After spending 2003-2009 with Milan, he moved to Real Madrid- where he currently plays.
The midfielder has also been a mainstay on the Brazilian national team during his playing career, making his debut for Brazil in a 2002 friendly against Bolivia. In 2005, Kaká was included in Brazil’s squad for the FIFA Confederations Cup and played all five matches, including a goal-scoring performance in the final. He has since appeared in the 2006 and 2010 World Cup for Brazil, as well as 2002 when he became a World Cup Champion.
Kaká will not be the only Brazilian to visit Orlando, with Brazilian Champions Fluminesne FC set to play Orlando City next Saturday, June 22, at Fifth Third Bank Field at the Florida Citrus Bowl. For tickets, visit Orlandocitysoccer.com.
