Orlando City Selects Defender Kevin Alston in Second Round of MLS Re-Entry Draft

Alston

ORLANDO, Fla. – Dec. 17, 2015 – Orlando City SC has selected defender Kevin Alston in the second round of the Major League Soccer (MLS) Re-Entry Draft earlier today. The team is finalizing a genuine offer to complete the transaction.

“The selection of Kevin through today’s Re-Entry draft can provide valuable experience and competition within the squad,” said Head Coach Adrian Heath. “With over 140 games in MLS and the ability to play on both sides, Kevin can offer versatility and depth along our backline.”

Alston, 27, defended the New England Revolution the last six years. After signing a Generation Adidas Contract and being selected in the first round of the 2009 MLS SuperDraft, the Washington, D.C. native appeared in 148 games for New England, registering one goal and seven assists – ranking in the team’s career top 10 in appearances (10th) and minutes played (ninth).

Capable of playing both outside back positions, the versatile and pacey defender started the 2010 MLS All-Star Game against English Premier League powerhouse Manchester United and was voted the Revs’ 2010 Best Defender.
Additionally, Alston was named the 2013 MLS WORKS Comeback Player of the Year after being diagnosed with chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) in early April, and returning to the field in late July.

At the international level, the fullback has featured in the U.S. Men’s National Team ranks – being called up to the senior team camps on several occasions and representing the U-17 side at the 2005 FIFA U-17 World Youth Championship and the 2007 Pan Am Games.
