Orlando City B is looking to make the United Soccer League (USL) playoffs in their inaugural season. Currently, they sit in the eighth and final spot in the playoffs, but they won’t be able to clinch that final spot until the start of this weekend’s final matches of the regular season.
With Orlando City B sitting just one point ahead of the Wilmington Hammerheads FC, they could clinch the final playoff spot before they take the field for their final match on Sunday. Here are the two matchups that you need to keep an eye on:
Wilmington Hammerheads FC vs. Richmond Kickers-- Sept. 24 7:00pm
For their final match of the USL season, the Wilmington Hammerheads will host the Richmond Kickers on Saturday night. The Hammerheads have won just one of their last ten matches, dropping an early lead last weekend against the Harrisburg City Islanders. The Richmond Kickers have also won just one in their last five, and sit one slot ahead Orlando City B at 48 points. If the Hammerheads lose or draw, Orlando City B will clinch before they step foot onto the pitch on Sunday night.
Orlando City B vs. Bethlehem Steel FC
Orlando City B will travel to face Bethlehem Steel FC on Sunday night as their final match of their inaugural USL season. If the Wilmington Hammerheads lose or draw on Saturday, Orlando City B will have already clinched the final playoff spot. If they win, Orlando City B will also need to win to take that final playoff slot. They face Bethlehem Steel FC, who has already been eliminated from playoff contention. They are winless in their last ten, but Orlando City B will still need to bring passion to the pitch and put up the best fight possible to reach the playoffs.
