What is the Leagues Cup?
The second year of the tournament, the Leagues Cup will look to build on a successful inaugural season in 2023. All 47 MLS and LIGA MX teams will once again pause their respective seasons this summer as they compete in the World Cup-style tournament sanctioned by Concacaf. An annual, month-long tournament played across the U.S.
In the group stage, Orlando City will play CF Montréal of MLS and San Luis of Liga MX, with both games hosted at INTER&Co Stadium.
The tournament lasts from July 26 - August 25, 2024.
What's the format?
The Leagues Cup is an official Concacaf competition set up with a World Cup-style group stage across four regions in the U.S. and Canada, with all 29 MLS clubs and 18 Liga MX clubs participating.
The teams that advance out of their groups will move on to the Knockout Rounds until one team is crowned the champion.
The top three teams will receive automatic bids into Cup with a chance to represent the Confederation at the FIFA Club World Cup.
For each match in the group stage, a win grants you three points in the table. If matches finish with the score tied, each team will receive one point and the match will advance straight to a penalty shootout, with the winner earning an additional point.
How does the tournament play out?
Each team will play a minimum of two matches in the group stage, with the top two teams from the four groups advancing to the knockout rounds.
Due to winning their respective league titles in 2023, Club America and Columbus Crew are granted automatic spots in the knockout rounds.
The two final teams left standing will play on Saturday, August 25, with both clubs qualifying for Concacaf Champions Cup. The Leagues Cup winner will skip directly to the Concacaf Champions Cup Round of 16.
The other two teams that finish in the final four will play a third-place match, with the winner gaining qualification to the Concacaf Champions Cup.
