As part of a league-wide initiative to end plastic waste and celebrate Earth Day, Orlando City players will look a little different during Saturday's match at Exploria Stadium.
Instead of donning their traditional purple and gold, the Lions will instead be wearing a swirling, hand-drawn fusion design of teal, blue and black as this year's "One Planet Kit" from adidas makes its on-pitch debut against D.C. United.
The complete kit is unique in more ways than just color alone, as explained by Major League Soccer in its public unveil on Tuesday:
Made entirely out of Parley Ocean plastic – a recycled material created from reimagined plastic waste – the hand-drawn kit design pays homage to the ocean floor each jersey aims to protect. Blended into the swirling print, the repeating wordmark "End Plastic Waste" serves as a call to action uniting each club in the collective stewardship of our planet.
Fans can purchase the 'One Planet Kit' now at MLSStore.com or at The Den Team Store inside Exploria Stadium during Saturday's match. Orlando City Season Ticket Holders can reserve theirs now exclusively at OCMobileShop.com through a special pre-sale access code that runs until Friday at 5 p.m.
Here's a closer look at the kit, featuring Orlando City defender Robin Jansson and midfielder Dagur Dan Thórhallsson:
