CONCACAF Consider Sweeping Changes
This weekend, CONCACAF President Victor Montagliani revealed that he has ordered a review of the World Cup qualifying process for the region. The current process consists of five rounds-- the first three rounds are played by the smaller CONCACAF nations. The victors from those rounds are then joined in the fourth round by regional powerhouses such as Mexico and the United States.
The top two teams from the three four-team groups move on to the fifth round and final round. Two years before the World Cup, CONCACAF is preparing for the final round-- two years before the World Cup, only six of the 35 teams in the region are still alive in the competition. That is something that Montagliani hopes to change. No proposed changes have been made. The President also hinted at changes to CONCACAF Champions League.
Race For The Shield Heats Up
This weekend, the Colorado Rapids defeated the Houston Dynamo 3-2, putting them one step closer to the Supportersā Shield. They currently sit at 54 points, two points behind FC Dallas and three points ahead of the Eastern contenders from New York. Colorado has also played one less games than all three of those teams, giving them a possible advantage as the season heads into its final weeks.
