ORLANDO, Fla. (October 24, 2016) – The Audi Central Florida Dealers will launch a scholarship program to provide financial assistance for talented players in the Orlando City Youth Soccer program starting in 2017.
Audi North Orlando, Audi South Orlando and Audi Melbourne dealers will each award a $1,500 yearly scholarship to an Orlando City Youth team in their respective market areas. Funds will be used at the team’s discretion to cover annual registration and equipment needs for deserving players who need the support.
“On behalf of Orlando City Youth Soccer, I would like to thank the Audi Central Florida Dealers for providing these scholarships that will not only lessen the financial burden for some of our families, but will also keep the door of participation open where it might have otherwise been closed,” Orlando City Youth Soccer General Manager Laura Halfpenny said. “Participation in youth sports has such a positive effect on the youth and, thanks to Audi, we are able to keep more children in our community involved in the beautiful game.”
Orlando City Youth Soccer features programs for both boys and girls, age 4 to 18, with over 2,000 members across Central Florida. With a strong youth team, Academy and professional development team in the United Soccer League (USL), Orlando City SC and its partners are building a solid foundation for player recruitment and development. The Club’s long-term goal is to sustain a healthy pipeline of young athletes who could transition into First Team players throughout the course of time.
“The Audi Central Florida Dealers are committed to growing the game of soccer in the Central Florida Area. We understand that families sacrifice a lot to have their children play this beautiful game,” Audi Marketing Manager Margaret Mohiuddin said. “We are happy to play a small part by providing these scholarships to support the development of youth soccer in Central Florida.”
In addition to the three scholarships, Audi will be hosting a private clinic for three Orlando City Youth Soccer teams on Sunday, Oct. 30, inclusive of Orlando City SC player appearances.
The Audi Central Florida Dealers presented a check to Halfpenny and Orlando City Youth Soccer before Orlando City’s home finale on Oct. 23.
