ORLANDO, FL - The Central Florida Sports Commission (CFSC) Board of Directors voted to fully support the City of Orlando, Orange County, and the Orlando City Soccer Club in their combined efforts to win an MLS franchise and construct a new soccer stadium in the City of Orlando.
“As the organization responsible for regional sports economic development, we believe the addition of a soccer-specific stadium, capable of hosting events that are not currently possible in Central Florida, will be a valuable and beneficial addition to the existing sports venues in our region” said Mike Millay, Chairman of the CFSC. “A stadium that will serve as home to a MLS team will allow us to further attract events that drive sports fans to our community leading to greater economic benefit,” Millay added.
The Central Florida Sports Commission is a not for profit organization that represents the City of Orlando, Orange, Seminole, Osceola, Volusia and Lake counties in efforts to attract and host sports events that drive tourism. Last year, the CFSC generated economic impact of over $105 Million through 83 events. The CFSC recently celebrated its 20th year of leadership in the sports tourism industry and will co-host the 2nd & 3rd Rounds of the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament in March 2014.
