Cyle Larin Nominated for 2016 Canadian Player of the Year

Canadian Player Of the Year

Orlando City striker Cyle Larin has been nominated for the 2016 Canadian Player of the Year, Canada Soccer announced today.

Media and coaches in Canada will select the three best talents of the 13-player list to celebrate Canada Soccer’s top footballers, recognizing their 2016 achievements with the National Team and their respective club teams. Winners will be announced on Dec. 15 and 16.

The nomination follows a successful sophomore campaign for Larin. After earning 2015 MLS Rookie of the Year honors, the 21-year old forward led the team again in goals with 14 and added three assists. In July, Larin was the youngest player selected to the 2016 MLS AT&T All-Star Game to face Arsenal FC before being named the league’s top player under 24 years old in MLSsoccer.com 24 Under 24.

Larin has also become a fixture in Canada’s national team since making his senior debut in 2014. The Brampton, Ontario, native has started in 13 of his 19 appearances and has scored five goals, four of them in the 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifying.

Voting for the 2016 Canadian Players of the Year award is split between media and coaches from coast to coast to coast across Canada. Voting is open from Monday, Nov. 28 to Thursday, Dec. 8.
