Don Garber Ranks Orlando City’s Opening Game Favorite 2015 MLS Moment

During the Q&A with MLS Commissioner Don Garber conducted on December 3 on the MLS Facebook page, Garber was asked to recall his favorite moment from the 2015 MLS season. Garber explained, “There’s two of them: the opening game at the Citrus Bowl with Orlando City and the opening game at Yankee stadium with New York City.”

Orlando City’s opening game at the Citrus Bowl made history books when they kicked off their inaugural MLS season. Orlando City saw the Citrus Bowl filled with 62,510 people. Garber continues, “Nobody thought we’d have [over] 62,000 at the Citrus Bowl. There’s a lot of great things going on with these two [teams] and both moments were a high point for me for sure.”

When asked about the best MLS match that Garber has ever watched, Garber stated, “It’s hard to pick one. The opening games with our new clubs are all special moments for me, but going back to the early 2000s when the Revolution were in the MLS Cup against LA Galaxy, our league was really young and not developed and yet we sold out Gillette stadium for that championship game.”

Orlando City’s opening MLS game was a monumental moment for the Lions and a great way to make their mark on a league that is growing immensely each year. If Orlando City continue their success over the next few years, it wouldn’t be surprising to see them included in Garber’s favorite all time MLS moment.
