Midfielder Kristen Edmonds and Forward Jasmyne Spencer are the well-known dynamic duo of the Orlando Pride. Whether it’s on the field or off the field, the two women know each other well and their chemistry makes them good friends and good teammates.
In the Orlando Pride’s final match of the season, Spencer scored the team’s lone goal off a rebounded free kick from Edmonds. The strike slashed past the FC Kansas City goalkeeper and the stadium erupted in cheers. Spencer looked to Edmonds with a wide smile on her face and jumped into her teammate’s arms.
“It’s a great goal,” Head Coach Tom Sermanni said after the match. “I hope she scores more of those next year. I mean, it’s a fabulous strike.”
Spencer and Edmonds have been a consistent offensive presence for the Orlando Pride. Edmonds comes in as the team’s top goal-scorer with six goals on the season, and Spencer follows closely behind, tied with Alex Morgan for the second most goals at four. They were a presence for the team throughout all the ups and downs.
“Jasmyne [Spencer] and Kristen [Edmonds] who are basically joined at the hip on and off the field have got this chemistry with each other and this knowledge of how each other plays,” Sermanni said. “What we need next year is more of that cohesion… we need that throughout the team.”
It only seems fitting that the team would enter the off-season with a goal scored by this duo. Sermanni has already said he’ll be looking for more players like Edmonds next season, but we suspect that he’ll be looking for a few more players like Spencer too.
