El Cuervo keeps on flying.
Facundo Torres scored his fifth goal since the start of July on Saturday, lifting Orlando City to a 1-0 away victory against the New York Red Bulls that pulled the Lions back above the playoff line. Torres was voted Heineken Man of the Match by the City fans for his performance.h
The Uruguayan got his goal in the 17th minute. Alexandre Pato began the move by badly faking out Kyle Duncan on a goal kick, chesting it down and firing a no-look line breaker to Júnior Urso in transition. Urso juked out his defender and hit the ball to Torres with his left foot. From there, Facu made no mistake, driving a tight-angle shot past Red Bulls goalkeeper Carlos Coronel for the goal.
In addition to winning Heineken Man of the Match, Torres was named to the MLS Team of the Week bench for his performance on the night.
Torres’ goal was the headliner, but El Cuervo did a ton of dirty work off the ball to help Orlando City hold on for the win. On the attacking end, Torres led the team with three successful dribbles and 13 passes in the final third, 11 of which he completed. Defensively, Torres was tops among Orlando players with three tackles won and 19 duels contested (10 of which he won) while also chipping in seven ball recoveries and two fouls won.
