As the United States, Canada, and Brazil continued their qualification process for the 2018 World Cup, three Lion’s were called up to help their cause. Below, we break recap the call-ups of Kaká, Brek Shea, and Cyle Larin.
Kaká - Brazil
Brazil battled Argentina to a 1-1 draw in a match that was delayed to November 14th before easily defeating Peru 3-0 on Tuesday. The four points accrued puts Brazil third in round one of qualification behind Uruguay and Ecuador.
Kaká didn’t feature in either match and should return to start his offseason in perfect health.
Brek Shea - United States
It was a mixed bag for the United States in their first two matches of group play. They handily defeated St. Vincent/Grenadines 6-1 before drawing Trinidad and Tobago 0-0 on the road.
Brek Shea didn’t see the pitch in either game. New national team inclusions Matt Miazga and Darlington Nagbe saw some time in the 6-1 route, while only two substitutions were made in their draw with Trinidad and Tobago.
Cyle Larin - Canada
It was a successful week for Canada as they kept pace with Mexico in Group A. A 0-0 draw against El Salvador and a 1-0 victory over Honduras places them second in their group just two points behind Mexico and three clear of El Salvador.
Cyle Larin started both matches for Canada and notched the teams lone goal of the qualifying period. A cross from Junior Hoilett found Will Johnson on the far post whose header deflected off Larin’s back and into the goal. Larin played a total of 166 minutes over the two matches.
Kaká, Shea, and Larin will now begin their offseason with the next qualifying matches not until March of 2016.
