The legend continues to make her mark on NWSL this season. Through the 16 games she has played, Marta has notched nine goals and four assists, good for third and second respectively in the league in both categories. Not only that, but the Brazilian playmaker leads the league in chances created with 39, is second in the league in total points with 14, fifth in the league in total shots with 52 and most importantly, the offensive leader in all categories for the Pride.
With Marta infused into this year’s lineup, the Pride’s offense has become much more dynamic and fun to watch. The team has scored six more goals then they scored all of last season and eight more assists than the entirety of the 2016 season. Now, that’s including the additions of players in the attack like Camila, Alanna Kennedy, Chioma Ubogagu and others, but the addition of Marta has been the biggest asset to Head Coach Tom Sermanni’s offense in 2017.
Outside of statistics, the Brazilian has brought her unique play style and creativity to the field. The reason she leads the league in chances created is due to her world-class field vision and her ability to make pinpoint passes through the midfield to free up her teammates is unmatched in the league.
As the Pride continue their push for the playoffs this year, Marta will be a player that the team will lean heavily upon for everything in their offensive third. If she continues her current offensive pace with just seven games left in the season, the Pride can be a viable contender for a chance in the playoffs come October.
