Local artist and Orlando City Manager of Creative & Brand Matt Stone has always been a lion. Growing up playing sports in Central Florida and then, as fate would have it, finding himself in the Orlando City front office.

Matt has done many gameday posters over the years, including the “Lion-naut” for Orlando City’s inaugural MLS match. This poster was inspired by the City he has lived in for most of his life.

“I really have enjoyed seeing Orlando City SC embrace the City of Orlando and Florida, while locals and non-locals have embraced the Soccer Club in return,” said Stone. “Visually, I really just wanted to show lions running through the city along with some iconic spots in Orlando while staying within the OCSC color palette. My style is inspired by traditional woodcuts, concert posters, comics, etc.”

Stone is a master of many mediums, but for this intricate project he went digital.

“The majority of my digital illustrations are created in Adobe Illustrator because it gives me total control over the line-work and ads a slight bit of edginess that I think is missed in a lot of digital artwork. I find it to be more true to the slight imperfections you would see in a traditional artists drawings and paintings.”

Aside from working daily on the fantastic brand creative you see across all aspects of Orlando City SC, Stone has some stunning side projects as well.

“Currently I'm working on a mixed medium series of Characters I created and am illustrating using spray paint, acrylic, and inks that I'm hoping to show in Orlando soon! I'm always creating Posters and Illustrating and designing for Orlando City SC. I really want to display more of my artwork this year.”

Stone’s poster will be available at The Den and kiosks around Orlando City Stadium on Sunday when the Lions host Real Salt Lake at 5pm. Poster’s have been selling out, so make sure to grab one early.
