Orlando City B Defeats FC Montreal 3-1

OCB Win Montreal

MONTREAL (June 26, 2016) ā€“ Orlando City B (6-6-3, 21 points) earned a decisive 3-1 victory over FC Montreal (2-12-1, 7 points) at Complexe Sportif Claude-Robillard with goals from Hadji Barry and Johnny Mendoza, as well as an own goal from Montrealā€™s Aron Mkungilwa. The Lions have now won four of their last seven matches and have picked up points in six of those games.

ā€œSome of the football we played tonight was really good. Really pleasing to see the way we moved the ball. The movement and the passing was excellent. Thankfully we managed to sniff out any danger when it happened,ā€ OCB Head Coach Anthony Pulis said. ā€œOverall, Iā€™m delighted for the players [and] their performance. Obviously itā€™s a fantastic result for us on the road and itā€™s one that we have to build on and keep moving forward in a positive manner.ā€

Goalkeeper Mark Ridgers, who came into the game leading the United Soccer League (USL) with 45 saves, had a particularly strong start to the game. The Scotsman made diving saves on Alessandro Riggi, Anthony Jackson-Hamel and Louis BĆ©land-Goyette in the first 15 minutes. Ridgers finished with four saves.

Barry, who has made four appearances for the Clubā€™s Major League Soccer side, made a good run before setting up Harrison Heath for a shot. Just seconds later, Lewis Neal found Barry in behind the Montreal back line. The 2016 MLS SuperDraft first-round pick made a move past goalkeeper Maxime CrĆ©peau and fired it inside the far post for the opening goal. It was Barryā€™s fourth goal in his last three games with OCB.

The referee awarded FC Montreal a penalty kick in the 34th minute after Zach Hayden took down Kyle Fisher in the box while defending a corner kick. Ridgers guessed correctly but couldnā€™t catch up to Riggiā€™s shot to the far post.

The Lions retook the lead late in the first half, though, when Mkungilwa tried chesting the ball to CrĆ©peau but sent it too high and into the back of his own net.

Orlando City almost extended their lead when Hayden made a nice run before finding Barry, who made a clever move to dodge his defender before firing a shot off the post.

The match was paused in the 76th minute for a water break. Water breaks are observed when the wet bulb globe temperature exceeds 89.6 degrees.

Both teams finished the match with 10 men after the referee issued two red cards in a matter of seconds late in the match. First, OCB captain Neal was issued a straight red card in the 84th minute for a dangerous tackle in the box. Then just one minute later, BĆ©land-Goyette earned a second yellow and was sent off for a reckless challenge at midfield.

OCB iced the match in the fourth minute of stoppage time when Tony Rocha made a slick move at the corner flag before dashing into the box. Rocha found halftime substitute Mendoza at the far post for his first goal of the season.
