ORLANDO, Fla. (May 30, 2017) - Orlando City SC (6-5-2, 20 points) returns to Orlando City Stadium on Wednesday, May 31, to host D.C. United (4-6-2, 14 points). Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET.
The match will be locally televised on WRDQ TV27 and transmitted locally on Real Radio 104.1 FM and La Nueva 990 AM.
“D.C. is a very hungry team. They’re also a team that has had their struggles over the past couple of weeks and have been in some negative places themselves and then on the weekend got a really positive result at Vancouver so I think they have some confidence now and I think they’ll be coming in here full force to get a result,” Lions Head Coach Jason Kreis said. “We go into this with full force and the objective is to begin to pull ourselves back into a winning rhythm.”
This is the first meeting of the season between the teams. On Oct. 23, 2016, Orlando City closed out the Orlando Citrus Bowl era with a memorable 4-2 win over D.C. Kaká scored and picked up two assists and Cristian Higuita scored his first goal of the season before assisting on the last goal at Camping World Stadium as City ended the season on a two-game winning streak. Each team collected three points from last year’s season series.
Orlando City is coming off a 1-0 loss at Minnesota United. The Lions outshot the Loons, 20-5, but Carlos Rivas’ flick hit the post and was cleared and Bobby Shuttleworth made seven saves, the most by an opposing goalkeeper this season.
Cyle Larin leads the team with seven goals and leads Major League Soccer (MLS) with four game-winning goals. Rivas leads the team with five assists.
D.C. snapped a three-game losing streak with a 1-0 win over the Vancouver Whitecaps. Lamar Neagle converted his penalty kick in the 61st minute and Cristian Techera rang his stoppage-time PK off the post as D.C. held on despite being outshot 22-7.
Luciano Acosta leads United with three goals, each of them a game-winner, to go with one assist. Lloyd Sam leads the team with two assists and has one goal. Goalkeeper Bill Hamid leads the league with 52 saves in 11 games.
The match is the first of a four-game homestand in 18 days for City. The Lions return to action on Sunday, June 4, to host the Chicago Fire before entering a bye-week. City will then host Miami FC or the Tampa Bay Rowdies on Tuesday, June 13, in the fourth round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup prior to playing the Montreal Impact on Saturday, June 17, at Orlando City Stadium.
