ORLANDO, Fla. (Aug. 9, 2018) - Orlando City SC (7-14-2, 23 points) travels to face D.C. United (4-9-6, 18 points) on Sunday, Aug. 12. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. ET at Audi Field.
The match will be nationally televised on FS1 and broadcast on FM 96.9 The Game in English and La Nueva 990 AM in Spanish.
“They’ve got capable players going forward. Obviously they’ve signed Wayne Rooney, his career speaks for itself. You’ve got [Darren] Mattocks, you’ve got [Luciano] Acosta. You've got multiple players that are capable, got good movement,” Lions head coach James O’Connor said. “The biggest thing for us, is trying to look at what areas can we excel in, what problems can we cause them and then what areas do we need to be mindful of, where are they going to attack, who are their most potent players and then trying to make sure there’s good understanding of attacking and defensive principles.”
Orlando City is coming off a 3-3 draw with the New England Revolution. The Lions came from behind to erase two separate deficits. Dom Dwyer scored his team-leading 10th goal of the season, while Amro Tarek and Scott Sutter scored their first goals of 2018. Yoshimar Yotún’s three assists tied a single-game Club-record set by Kaká on Sept. 25, 2015.
Yotún leads the Lions with nine assists, and is one away from tying Kaká for a Club single-season record. However, Yotún will serve a one-game suspension after being shown a red card upon Video Review in stoppage time on Saturday.
This is the third meeting of the season between these two teams. Stéfano Pinho scored in stoppage time to equalize on Opening Day and City advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2018 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on penalties on June 20.
D.C. United enters the match fresh off a 1-1 draw at the Montreal Impact on Saturday. Yamil Asad scored for D.C. in the 70th minute to earn it a point on the road.
Asad leads United with nine goals this season, followed by Mattocks with eight. Acosta leads the team with nine assists.
Sunday’s match will be City’s last for 12 days, as the Lions return to action on Aug. 24 against Atlanta United at Orlando City Stadium.
