Orlando City Looking to Build Towards Next Season With Final Two Games

Kreis Training

Two games remain in Orlando City’s 2017 season. The final home game against the Columbus Crew this coming Sunday and an away match at Philadelphia the week after. With the team mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, Head Coach Jason Kreis still wants his team to finish the season on a high note, to build into next season.

“Our objective is clear,” Kreis said on Monday, “I'd like to finish 7th place in our conference. Of course, we have four other teams that are at the exact same point and so we’ve got a little two-game mini tournament, so to speak, and so that's the objective from the team standpoint and from a coaching standpoint.”

Two wins from the team’s final games would put them at 45 points, which would be their highest for the team in the past three years. As the Lions look to hit that mark and continue trying to get results, Jason Kreis will look to see how his players take on the matches and how they respond in training and in games.

“What I think is really interesting is to look around at the players, look around the training mentality, look around at what they put into the matches and use that information, as you have to make decisions, difficult decisions, coming up here very shortly.”

Orlando City will play two more league matches and finish out the season with a special friendly game against the Puerto Rico national team a few weeks after the season, with full proceeds going to relief efforts. Details for that match will come soon. Meanwhile, the Lions have their home regular season finale on Sunday at 5:00, when they take on Columbus.
