After falling to the Montreal Impact last Saturday, Orlando City is looking to bounce back on Wednesday against the Colorado Rapids.
The Lions aren’t dwelling on the loss, though. After the game, Luke Boden talked about how a sign of a great team is how they respond after a loss. Orlando City is 2-2-1 in such games, and they’ll be looking to improve to 3-2-1 against Colorado.
“We have to get over it. We take any positives we can out of the game and you move on to the next one,” said head coach Adrian Heath on Monday.
“I thought our two central midfield players were excellent. I thought at times Rafa did some really good stuff. I thought Sean St. Ledger was outstanding.”
The game against Colorado offers the same opportunity that Montreal did, but this time without the possibility of giving points away to a conference rival. And thanks to D.C. United’s 2-1 win over the Revs, the Lions have yet another chance to draw within a point of second place.
After playing three games in the span of a week, including last Wednesday’s U.S. Open Cup game in Charleston, the Lions have just one more hill to climb before getting almost a full week off, and they face a Colorado Rapids team that’s had its fair share of challenges.
“It’s a big game for us to get three points and not drop in the table. [If we] win this game, we’ll just get closer to first place in the standings and just progress as the season goes on,” said rookie Cyle Larin.
Colorado may be at the bottom of the Western Conference in points, but it’s not for a lack of results. The team has drawn nine of their 15 games while loosing just four. On Friday, they tied FC Dallas on Dillon Serna’s gorgeous 88th minute volley.
The Lions are 3-1-1 against the West this season. They’ve picked up seven of a possible nine points in their most recent outings, with shutout wins over Portland and L.A. and a 1-1 stalemate in San Jose.
Wednesday’s game is set to kickoff at 7:30pm and will be televised on FOX35 and SunSports.
