Orlando City Midfielder Adrian Winter to Return to Switzerland

Winter Release

ORLANDO, Fla. (July 5, 2016) ā€“ Orlando City SC and Adrian Winter have mutually agreed to terminate the midfielder’s contract. Winter departs the Club for family reasons.

ā€œWe want to thank Adrian for his contributions to the Club. The decision to release him is a very difficult one but there is very little you can do when a player needs to be closer to his family and that family is in Switzerland, ā€œsaid Lions Head Coach Adrian Heath. ā€œAdrian is a very popular character within the club and will be sorely missed. We would like to wish him nothing but the best in his future endeavors.ā€

Winter, 29, joined Orlando City on July 29, 2015 and scored his first two goals for the Club in the Lions’ 3-1 win over Sporting Kansas City on Sept. 13. Winter scored the game-tying goal in stoppage time of the 2016 season opener on March 6 against Real Salt Lake, which brought the Lions back from a 2-0 stoppage-time deficit.

Winter became a fan favorite during his time with the Lions for his intense work rate and knack for scoring timely goals. Most recently, Winter scored a go-ahead goal in the 83rd minute against Toronto FC on June 25.

ā€œThis has been a great opportunity for me. I’ve been able to be part of a caring organization and very enthusiastic fans,ā€ said Winter. ā€œI will always cherish my time in Orlando and will miss this Club, but I l have to put family first. The Club has been very good in working with me on my request.ā€

Winter previously played for FC Luzern in the Swiss Super League, scoring 15 goals in 130 appearances. Winter also has earned one cap for the Swiss national team.
