ORLANDO, Fla. (July 29, 2022) - Orlando City SC (8-8-6, 30 points) is looking for revenge as they head to Washington D.C. to face off against D.C. United (5-12-3, 18 points) on Sunday, July 31 at Audi Field. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. ET.
The matchup will be locally televised on FOX35 PLUS and LionNation TV, and transmitted on 96.9 The Game in English and Acción 97.9 in Spanish.
Sunday’s match will be the eighth game the Lions have played in the month of July and their sixth in the last 18 days. In total, the Lions will have played six MLS regular-season games, a friendly against English Premier League Side Arsenal and a Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Semifinal.
City enters the weekend after punching its ticket to the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Final with a 5-1 thrashing of New York Red Bulls on Wednesday night. The Lions were backed by a brace from César Araújo, as well as goals from Mauricio Pereyra, Facundo Torres and Benji Michel. The Club will now host its first-ever Open Cup Final in franchise history and their first major final since finishing as runner-ups at the MLS is Back Tournament in 2020.
This will be the second and final matchup between the Lions and the Black and Red during the 2022 campaign. The previous game came earlier this month of the Fourth of July and saw D.C. United take the victory at Exploria Stadium in a 5-3 scoreline, with Facundo Torres, Ercan Kara and Alexandre Pato all finding the back of the net in the match.
D.C. enters the match coming off a 2-1 defeat to CF Montréal. United's captain Steven Birnbaum scored his first goal of the season, but it wasn’t enough to overcome a brace from Montréal’s Romell Quioto who scored in the first and the 35th minutes, respectively.
Following Sunday’s match, the Lions return to Exploria Stadium to take on the New England Revolution on Saturday, August 6. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET with tickets available here or by calling (855) ORL-CITY.
