ORLANDO, Fla. (July 31, 2021) - Orlando City SC has signed free agent goalkeeper Adam Grinwis for the remainder of the 2021 Major League Soccer season, with a Club option in 2022, it was announced today. Grinwis joins Orlando City for his second stint with the Club.
“We are really happy to welcome Adam back to Orlando City,” said Orlando City EVP of Soccer Operations Luiz Muzzi. “With Adam we get a player that loves the Club, knows and is comfortable with the guys, and that has a successful history here.”
Grinwis started out his professional career with the Rochester Rhinos in 2015 and 2016, helping the Rhinos to the 2015 USL regular season title and USL Cup. The Ada, Michigan native spent one year with Saint Louis FC of the USL in 2017 before joining the Lions for his first stint ahead of the 2018 season.
The 29-year-old returns after two seasons with the Club from 2018-19, highlighted by the Lions’ 2019 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup victory over expansion rivals New York City FC, in which Grinwis made the game-winning save from the penalty spot, a denial of NYCFC’s Maxime Chanot that sent City into the last four of the competition for the first time in its history. Grinwis logged six MLS appearances as a Lion in his previous stint, tallying 14 saves in that stretch with a clean sheet.
