Orlando City SC To Host Inter Miami CF in 2022 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup

ORLANDO, Fla. (May 13, 2022) - Orlando City SC will host Inter Miami CF at Exploria Stadium in the Round of 16 of the 2022 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, the 107th edition of the cup competition. The Lions’ match is set for Wednesday, May 25 at 7 p.m. ET, with all Round of 16 matches scheduled to take place from May 24-25 and be streamed live on ESPN+.

The winner of the match between the Lions and Inter Miami will host the winner of Louisville City FC vs. Nashville SC. All quarterfinal matches are set to take place on June 21-22.

Orlando City Season Ticket Members will receive priority access beginning on Saturday, May 14 at 3 p.m. ET, with tickets going on sale to the general public on Saturday, May 14 at 7 p.m. ET. City advanced to the Round of 16 after defeating fellow MLS side Philadelphia Union 2-1 on May 10 at Exploria Stadium. City forward Ercan Kara opened the scoring in the 54th minute, with midfielder Andrés Perea notching the game-winner just three minutes later.

Inter Miami is currently 13th in MLS’ Eastern Conference standings with a record of 3-6-1 and 10 points in the regular season. Miami joined the Open Cup in the Third Round, defeating USL Championship’s Miami FC 1-0 in that round and USL League One’s South Georgia Tormenta FC 3-1 in the Round of 32.

The competition is taking place for the first time since 2019, after the 2020 and 2021 editions were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Open Cup is the oldest ongoing soccer competition in the United States and had been played 106 consecutive years since 1913 until the cancellation of the 2020 edition. 

City holds a 15-9-3 record in the competition dating back to the 2011 campaign. The Lions’ best run in the Open Cup came in their last appearance in 2019, making it to the semifinals, falling to eventual champions Atlanta United. City’s run included the legendary “Running of the Wall” game against New York City FC at Exploria Stadium.
