ORLANDO, Fla. (April 16, 2019) - Orlando Pride (0-1-0, 0 points) hits the road for the first time this season, traveling to face the reigning NWSL Champion North Carolina Courage (0-0-1, 1 point) on Wednesday. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET at WakeMed Soccer Park.
The match will be nationally streamed on Yahoo Sports! and in the NWSL app. International fans can tune in on NWSLsoccer.com.
“North Carolina are obviously a strong team and we know that Wednesday will be a wonderful test,” Orlando Pride Head Coach Marc Skinner said. “That being said, we have an opportunity ahead to bounce back and return to the core principles that we’ve been practicing every day. We know what we need to do and if we go out, focus on the small details and play our game, I’m confident we will have a strong performance.”
The Pride will look to bounce back from a defeat in their 2019 NWSL season opener on Sunday, falling 2-0 at the hands of the Portland Thorns FC. Caitlin Foord and Tobin Heath found the back of the net for the Thorns on the evening, scoring in the 45th and 49th minutes respectively.
Ashlyn Harris registered six saves in Sunday’s match, placing her one shy of the league-lead with Reign FC’s Michelle Betos.
The Courage enter Wednesday’s contest fresh off a 1-1 draw in their opener against the Chicago Red Stars on Saturday. Sam Kerr opened the scoring in the 26th minute to give the Red Stars a 1-0 lead. The Courage answered in the second half, however, with a goal from Crystal Dunn in the 66th, forcing the two sides to split the points on the night.
Wednesday’s midweek contest will be the first of three between the two sides this season. The Courage visit Orlando City Stadium on June 1 and the Pride will return to WakeMed Soccer Park on September 14.
