ORLANDO, Fla. (October 19, 2016) - Entering the 2016-17 offseason, Orlando Pride has exercised options on 10 players and extended new contract offers to six additional players, the Club announced today.
The Pride has exercised contract options for the 2017 NWSL season on: forwards Christina Burkenroad, Lisa De Vanna and Sarah Hagen; midfielders Kristen Edmonds, Dani Weatherholt and Sam Witteman; and defenders Laura Alleway, McKenzie Berryhill, Monica and Cami Levin.
In addition, Orlando has extended new contract offers to goalkeeper Aubrey Bledsoe; defenders Steph Catley and Toni Pressley; midfielder Maddy Evans and forwards Jamia Fields and Jasmyne Spencer.
U.S. Women’s National Team members Alex Morgan and Ashlyn Harris, as well as Canadians Josée Bélanger and Kaylyn Kyle, remain with the Pride as Federation Players. Midfielder Becky Edwards, a four-year NWSL veteran, announced her retirement at the conclusion of the 2016 season.
The Club has declined the option on goalkeeper Kaitlyn Savage, who will become eligible for selection in the NWSL Re-Entry Wire.
The NWSL Re-Entry Wire opens on Wednesday, Oct. 19 at 1 p.m. ET. Teams have until Thursday, Oct. 20 at 1 p.m. ET to make submissions for players on the wire.
In the event a player is requested by more than one team, that player will be awarded to the team with the lower finish during the 2016 NWSL regular season. Once a team claims a player from waivers via the tie-breaker, it is moved to the bottom of the order for all future waiver sessions for the remainder of the offseason.
