ORLANDO, Fla. (March 2, 2021) - Ahead of the 2021 National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) season, the Orlando Pride have signed forward Abi Kim to a two-year contract with an option for an additional year, it was announced today.
“We’re very pleased to welcome Abi back to Orlando. We tracked her closely during her time in Italy and are excited about what she is going to bring to the Pride following her stint there,” Orlando Pride General Manager Ian Fleming said. “Abi has the quality to make a positive impact here in the immediate term, and we look forward to her continued development as a member of our Club.”
Kim, 22, was selected by the Pride at No. 26 overall in the 2020 NWSL College Draft out of the University of California-Berkeley. The forward joined the Pride for the 2020 preseason, but an injury sidelined her early on in the year. In September, Kim signed with Fiorentina Women’s FC of Italy’s Serie A. In her first season as a professional, Kim appeared in seven matches across all competitions, scoring a goal in both Serie A play and the Italian Women’s Super Cup.
Throughout her collegiate career, Kim appeared in 80 matches for the Golden Bears, scoring 18 and totaling 10 assists. In 2019, she earned United Soccer Coaches All-Region Third Team honors for the second-consecutive year and served as a team captain, while receiving All-Pac 12 honors each of the three years prior.
On the international stage, Kim has represented the U.S. Women’s National Team at both the U-18 and U-20 levels, most recently a member of the 2018 FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup team. In 24 caps with the U-20s, Kim has found the back of the net six times.
