Orlando Pride Signs English International Amy Turner

ORLANDO, Fla. (June 25, 2021) - Orlando Pride has signed English defender Amy Turner to a two-year contract with an option for an additional season, it was announced today. Turner joins the Pride from FA Women’s Super League (WSL) side Manchester United, with allocation money used in the signing.

“Amy is a player we identified early in our recruitment process for this season who could add more quality in a key position for us, allowing us to both strengthen the way we play now, while opening opportunities for more tactically flexible play moving forward,” Orlando Pride General Manager Ian Fleming said. “Amy's body of work as a professional speaks for itself - she's fought her way up the English tiers of football and played for some of the biggest clubs in the world - and now she'll challenge herself again by playing in the most competitive league in the world as a member of the Pride. We're thrilled to bring her to Orlando.”

Turner, 29, comes to Orlando after nearly three years with the Red Devils. Since joining the side ahead of its inaugural season in July 2018, Turner appeared in 67 contests across all competitions, scoring four goals in that time.

Prior to her time in Manchester, Turner enjoyed a short stint at Liverpool for the 2017 campaign following four seasons at Notts County from 2013-16. While with Notts County, the Sheffield-native tallied 75 appearances in all competitions, named to the shortlist for PFA Women’s Young Player of the Year in 2015.

A product of Sheffield Wednesday at the youth level, Turner earned her FA Women’s Premier League debut at the age of 16 for the Doncaster Rovers Belles before leaving England to attend Hofstra University in 2009. Returning to her native nation in 2011, Turner enjoyed spells at Leeds United and Sheffield in the WPL National and WPL Northern, respectively, before returning to England’s top-flight in 2013.

On the international stage, Turner has appeared for the Lionesses at the U-23 and senior levels, earning her first call-up to the English Women’s National Team ahead of the 2015 Cyprus Cup. Turner earned her international debut in March 2015 with four caps in total for the senior side in her international career.
