ORLANDO, Fla. (July 12, 2022) - Orlando City SC (8-7-4, 28 points) travels out west for a midweek matchup against the Colorado Rapids (5-8-5, 20 points) on Wednesday, July 13. Kickoff is set for 9 p.m. ET at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.
Wednesday’s match will be locally telecast on FOX35 Plus and LionNation TV while being transmitted on 96.9 The Game in English and Acción 97.9 in Spanish.
The Lions have fared well against the Rapids throughout Club history, holding a 4-1-1 record against Wednesday’s opposition through six meetings. City last faced off against Colorado on March 7, 2020, in what served as the Club’s last match before the COVID-19 pandemic.
Orlando returns to the pitch following a 1-0 win over Inter Miami CF in its last outing. After a two-and-a-half hour rain delay, the Lions and Herons were scoreless through 90 minutes, until an own goal from Damion Lowe in second-half stoppage time decided the match.
Goalkeeper Pedro Gallese tallied his seventh clean sheet of the campaign in the victory, now sitting one shy of the league lead and one away from breaking his own Club-record for shutouts in a single campaign. The Peruvian international holds the franchise record for clean sheets in all competitions, now with 18 as a Lion.
Colorado enters the midweek following a 2-2 draw at Real Salt Lake this past Saturday. The visitors overcame a two-goal deficit with goals from Diego Rubio and Lalas Abubakar in the 67th and 89th minutes respectively to split the points at Rio Tinto Stadium.
Rubio leads the Rapids with eight goals this campaign, followed by Abubakar with three. Goalkeeper William Yarbrough has tallied six clean sheets on the year, two shy of the MLS lead.
Following Wednesday’s match, the Lions head back out on the road for their first fixture against their neighbors to the north in 2022, traveling to take on Atlanta United FC on Sunday, July 17 in a national telecast on ABC and ESPN Deportes. Kickoff for that fixture is slated for 3 p.m. ET.
