The 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup is underway in France and the Orlando Pride have nine players representing five nations in this summer’s international competition. With each team’s first match under their belt, the Pride had five players appear for their national teams, with two finding the back of the net in their group stage opener.

Sunday, June 9:
Italy 2, Australia 1 (Group C)
Australian internationals Alanna Kennedy and Emily van Egmond were the first to represent the Pride on the world stage, featuring in the starting XI for the Matildas on Sunday. Both played the entirety of the match for Australia, who fell to Italy after late-match heroics in their Group C opener. Chicago Red Stars forward Sam Kerr opened the scoring in the match to give the Matildas a 1-0 advantage, but two goals from Italy’s Barbara Bonansea in the 56th and 95th minutes respectively secured all three points for the Italians.
Next Match: Australia will look to bounce back against Brazil on Thursday at 12 p.m. ET, in a match that could potentially feature four members of the Pride.
Brazil 3, Jamaica 0 (Group C)
Brazil began its World Cup run with a 3-0 victory over Jamaica on Sunday thanks to a hat trick from forward Cristiane. Orlando Pride defender Camia and forward Marta did not appear for Brazil in the match, with Marta precautionarily held out due to a slight injury.
Next Match: Brazil is set to face Australia on Thursday at 12 p.m. ET in their second match of group play.
England 2, Scotland 1 (Group D)
The Pride’s newest addition, Scottish forward Claire Emslie, scored the lone goal for her national team in a 2-1 loss to England on Sunday. It served as the first-ever goal scored in a FIFA Women’s World Cup for the Scotland WNT and also the first by a member of the Pride in the 2019 edition of the marquee international tournament. Emslie played the entirety of the match for Scotland.
Next Match: Scotland continue Group D play on Friday at 9 a.m. ET against Japan.
Monday, June 10:
Canada 1, Cameroon 0 (Group E)
Orlando Pride defender Shelina Zadorsky featured in the starting XI for the Canadian Women’s National Team in their Group E opener, playing the entirety of the match. Lyon’s Kadeisha Buchanan scored the lone goal for Canada on the night in the 45th minute to earn the Canadians three points heading into their second match of group play.
Next Match: Canada takes the field against New Zealand on Saturday, with kickoff set for 3 p.m. ET.
Tuesday, June 11:
USA 13, Thailand 0 (Group F)
The United States made the biggest statement in their Group F opener, scoring a World Cup record 13 goals in a 13-0 rout over Thailand. Orlando Pride forward Alex Morgan found the back of the net five times on the night, tying former U.S. WNT forward Michelle Akers for the most goals scored in a World Cup match by a single player. Morgan now sits at eight World Cup goals throughout her international career and 106 total for the U.S. WNT. Orlando Pride goalkeeper Ashlyn Harris and defender Ali Krieger did not appear in Tuesday’s match for the U.S. WNT.
Next Match: The U.S. faces Chile on Sunday at 12 p.m. ET for its second match of group play.
