The 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup entered the knockout stage on Saturday, with eight of the Orlando Pride nine World Cup players moving on to the Round of 16 in this year’s edition of the international contest.

Following the result of the opening round, three players will continue their World Cup journey, advancing to the Quarterfinals set to begin on Thursday, June 27. A complete schedule for the Quarterfinals can be found here.
Saturday, June 22:
Norway 1, Australia 1; Norway 4-1 in PKs
Emily Van Egmond and Alanna Kennedy started for Australia as the Matildas bowed out of the World Cup in the Round of 16. Norway scored in the 31st minute via an Isabella Herlovsen goal while Australia equalized late in the game when Elise Kellond-Knight scored for the Matildas in the 83rd to send the game to extra time. Van Egmond was subbed off in the 116th minute, while Alanna Kennedy was sent off via a red card in the 104th due to a controversial call.
The match advanced to penalty kicks, with the Norwegians advancing by a 4-1 score.
Sunday, June 23:
France 2, Brazil 1
Orlando Pride forward Marta was featured in Brazil’s starting XI in their Round of 16 match versus France. After conceding a goal in the 52nd minute, Brazil quickly found the back of the net in the 63rd to equalize. Brazil was able to hold France off until the second half of extra time, where French captain Amandine Henry netted the eventual game-winner 107 minutes into the match. After a suspenseful 120 minutes, the host nation ended Brazil’s 2019 World Cup campaign. Orlando Pride defender Camila did not make an appearance in the match.
Monday, June 24:
USA 2, Spain 1
The U.S. continued its title defense on Monday, defeating Spain 2-1 in the Round of 16. The Americans got on the board early in the seventh minute thanks to a converted penalty kick from Megan Rapinoe. Their lead did not last long, however, as Jennifer Hermoso equalized for Spain in the ninth minute, capitalizing on a poor defensive play by the U.S. The two sides continued to battle with a breakthrough coming for the U.S. when Rose Lavelle was fouled in the penalty area. Rapinoe converted from the spot again in the 75th minute for the game-winner to send the U.S. through to the Quarterfinal round. Orlando Pride forward Alex Morgan started for the U.S. and was subbed off in the 85th minute, while Ali Krieger and Ashlyn Harris were unused substitutes.

Sweden 1, Canada 0
Orlando Pride defender Shelina Zadorsky started for Canada and played the entirety of their Round of 16 matchup against Sweden on Monday. Canada’s World Cup journey ended on the afternoon, with a goal from Sweden’s Stina Blackstenius serving as the game-winner and sending the European side through to the Quarterfinals.
