On Saturday’s match against Columbus Crew, Swiss right back Scott Sutter made his MLS debut. Sutter came on as a substitute for Mataís Pérez Garcia in the 71st minute and got his first taste of MLS.
“I’ve been looking forward to it,” Sutter said. “It was a chance for me and I was really excited to be a part of it.”
Sutter was brought in just a few days before the season opener, and while it has taken him a bit of time to adjust, he is starting to feel at home.
“I needed a bit of time when I first came, from the flying, the jet lag a bit,” Sutter said. “But the guys have been great, it’s been so easy for me personally to come into the team. I mean, I’ve had no problems and it’s been really enjoyable. I must say, the trainings have been really good, they’re intensive and exactly what you want.”
While Sutter admits that he needs to increase his fitness level, he believes that will come as he gets more time in training and appearances in games. “I’m just looking forward to getting a few more games under my belt,” Sutter said. “I’m feeling better and better by day.”
Sutter has played in the Swiss Super League for most of his professional career. MLS is a completely different atmosphere. Sutter said that before his debut, he was bursting with excitement.
“It was good, it was exciting,” Sutter said. “I was buzzing from the get-go.”
“It was just nice to be a part of it and to finally be here and to get my first MLS game under my belt,” Sutter said. “Hopefully there will be many more to come.”
