Several ECNL Teams Qualify for Champions League, U-16s Win Conference Championship

U-16 ECNL Conference Champs

The Orlando City Elite Clubs National League (ECNL) teams wrapped up their 2014 season this past weekend, competing on the road against the Concorde Fire and Birmingham United.

U-14s:

The U-14s remained in the top half of the table, splitting both of their fixtures against Concorde and Birmingham. After losing to the Fire on Saturday, the Lions responded valiantly to defeat Birmingham on Sunday.

U-15s:

The U-15s lost against Concorde on Saturday in an important game, which determined the top two teams in the league. After falling 3-2 to the Fire, the U-15s bounced back to claim a 3-2 victory against Birmingham on Sunday. The U-15s’ win keeps the Lions’ in a good position to secure a wild card spot for ECNL’s Champions League.

U-16s:

The U-16s enjoyed another successful weekend on the pitch, as they drew Concorde and defeated Birmingham to win the conference title. After finishing at the bottom of the league last year, the U-16s had a remarkable turnaround this season – advancing to the Champions League.

Additionally, the U-16s were the only team in the entire Southeast Conference to remain unbeaten all season.

U-17s:

After falling to Concorde Fire, the U-17s defeated Birmingham in convincing fashion – winning 3-0. As a result, the young Lions clinched second place in the league – earning automatic qualification in the Champions League.

U-18:

With many players missing due to injuries and high school obligations, the U-18s had a difficult weekend – dropping points to Concorde on Saturday in a difficult loss. However, the U-18s fought back on Sunday to defeat Birmingham, finishing fourth in the league table.

“This was probably our most challenging weekend in terms of applying the style and manner in which we like to play,” said ECNL Director Alan Hough. “But, the results came through and with many age groups finishing in first or second place, we’re in a really good place moving forward. Overall, a good ending to the season, and we’re looking forward to the ECNL Showcase later this month.”
