Stats & Storylines

- Orlando City earned a clean sheet for the first time in 2025 last weekend, securing a valuable road point in a 0-0 draw with Philadelphia. Goalkeeper Pedro Gallese produced four saves in the shutout to help the Lions go unbeaten in four consecutive matches.

- Orlando started a new backline combination in front of Gallese, with David Brekalo coming in at left back for Rafael Santos. The Lions also improvised a brand-new double pivot in their 4-2-3-1 – with César Araújo and Eduard Atuesta both unavailable as a precaution due to tightness, Joran Gerbet and Dagur Dan Thórhallsson stepped in to help pitch the shutout. It was Thórhallsson’s first start in midfield for Orlando in any competition since May 2023.

- For the first time this season the Lions were unable to score, despite two of the biggest chances of the night coming from their vaunted trio of Designated Players. Orlando was shut out for the first time in 15 regular season matches, going back to a 3-0 defeat at Sporting Kansas City on August 24, 2024.

- Despite the shutout, Orlando City is still tied for the league lead in goals scored with the San Jose Earthquakes, who caught up by putting six past D.C. United on Sunday. Orlando ranks fifth in MLS in expected goals, third in key passes, and is tied for second in assists.

- 18 year-old Homegrown Colin Guske made his MLS debut on Saturday, coming on for the final minutes to protect the point. Guske’s older brothers Owen and Liam both played for Orlando City B, but Colin is the first to play for the first team.

- With the Philadelphia game finished, Orlando has wrapped up a run of four away games in five matches, going 1-1-2 in the four road games and winning the lone home contest against D.C. United. The Lions are fifth in the Eastern Conference in points per game on the road so far this season after ranking second behind FC Cincinnati over the past two seasons.

Meet the opponent: New York Red Bulls

- Orlando and RBNY played to a thrilling 2-2 draw just four weeks ago in New Jersey, with Martín Ojeda and Marco Pašalić getting on the scoresheet for Orlando City. Eduard Atuesta provided two assists in the game, with Luis Muriel adding one on a devastating flick to Ojeda for the No. 10’s opener. Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting opened his MLS account with a penalty kick for New York while Dennis Gjengaar also scored.

- After a four-game winning streak from 2022-23, the Lions are winless in four against the Red Bulls, though they have either drawn or lost by one goal in each of the four games.

- Iván Angulo is the only other player on the Orlando roster besides Ojeda and Pašalić with a regular season goal against the Red Bulls, though César Araújo famously notched a brace in the Lions’ 5-1 rout in the 2022 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup semifinals. Atuesta has three career assists against RBNY while Kyle Smith has two.

- New York is coming off a comeback 2-1 win over the Chicago Fire last weekend, with teenager Serge Ngoma scoring the equalizer in the 41st minute before Choupo-Moting scored another penalty in first half stoppage time to go in front. Choupo-Moting and fellow DP Emil Forsberg started up top in a 4-2-2-2 formation, a shift from the back three the Red Bulls had been playing since last year’s postseason.

- The Lions and Red Bulls enter the match with identical 3-2-2 records, though Orlando’s +3 goal difference is slightly better than New York’s +2 and the Lions have scored six more goals. Choupo-Moting and Forsberg both have 3 G/1 A to lead the way for New York, while Omar Valencia and Peter Stroud have two assists apiece. Star forward Lewis Morgan has played just one match this season and is expected to be out this weekend after undergoing knee surgery last month.
