ORLANDO – April 9, 2015 – Orlando City Soccer Club’s U-16 Development Academy participated in its first-ever Major League Soccer Generation adidas Cup this past weekend, competing against sides such as the LA Galaxy, Seattle Sounders and Tigres.
The Lions opened the tournament, defeating the Chicago Fire 2-1 behind a two-goal performance from Landen Haig. Following their opening win over the Fire, City fell to Tigres 4-2 in penalties after battling to a 0-0 draw through regulation.
The Lions’ next two matches featured losses to both the Galaxy and the Sounders, with Pierre da Silva scoring the lone goal in both fixtures. However, Orlando responded in their final game of the tournament to produce a convincing 3-0 victory over the Colorada Rapids.
Haig and da Silva both scored in the win, as well as U-17 Jamaican National Team striker Nathaniel Adamolekun.
“Our first MLS Generation adidas Cup was a positive experience and very good evaluation process,” said head coach Jeff Negalha. “We must continue to improve, but I’m pleased on how the players and the team have grown from each event.”
