The Orlando City Youth Soccer (OCYS) U.S. Soccer Development Academy teams had another strong weekend as the program produced two wins and one loss against Weston FC.
In the opening match of the day, the U-18s produced a 2-1 win over the South Florida-based club. Gorka Aperribay (40’) and Jaiden Fortune (60’) opened the scoring for Orlando City, propelling the Lions to a comfortable 2-0 lead. However, the final nine minutes were slightly tenser, as Steven Ghitis scored in the 81st minute to narrow the lead.
The U-18s will play their next fixture at home on Sunday, March 15, against the Carolina Rapids. Kick-off is scheduled for 10 a.m.
The U-16s secured City’s only clean-sheet on Saturday, defeating Weston 2-0 at Seminole Soccer Complex. The majority of the match was scoreless – with Orlando scoring its first goal of the game in the 69th minute when Asyed Sanchez found the back of the net. Eight minutes later, Juan Jose Hernandez doubled the Lions’ lead – putting the game out of reach.
The top-ranked U-16s will face the Carolina Rapids next on March 15th at Seminole Soccer Complex. Kick-off is scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
The U-14s had a difficult outing this past weekend, as they suffered a 5-2 defeat to Weston. Alejandro Pereira and Andrew Lizyness both scored for City, but Weston’s four-goal second half performance was too much to overcome.
The U-14s will resume league play on March 15th, against Boca United Football at Seminole Soccer Complex. Kick-off is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
