Here are five storylines to watch on Saturday as the Lions head west to take on the LA Galaxy:
Designated Goals
Orlando City SC has been continued to receive high levels of attacking production from its Designated Players and that continued in the Club’s 2-1 win out on the West Coast over the LA Galaxy last weekend. Forward Luis Muriel and midfielder Martín Ojeda scored both goals in the Lions’ second-half comeback win over the Galaxy, with Ojeda calmly burying a penalty kick past John McCarthy in the 76th minute and Muriel hammering a free kick off McCarthy’s hands from distance that fell in at the 90th minute for the win. Orlando City’s Designated Players are up to 18 goal contributions on the year, eight more than second-place Chicago Fire FC.
Muriel Miles
Forward Luis Muriel has been off to a hot start in the Lions’ 2025 campaign after a 2024 season that saw him contribute to 13 goals across all competitions. The Colombian international now has a goal contribution in five consecutive games this season, putting him just two away from Martín Ojeda’s Club record of seven straight last summer. Muriel is tied for second in Major League Soccer this year with six goal contributions to date, with Muriel and Ojeda being the only two players in MLS with at least three goals and three assists each in 2025.
MVP Caliber
Midfielder and Designated Player Martín Ojeda has started 2025 on one of his best runs of form for Orlando City since arriving in the City Beautiful ahead of the 2023 campaign. Through the first six matches of the 2025 MLS season, Ojeda has scored four goals and provided three assists and leads the league with seven goal contributions. The Gualeguaychú, Argentina native ranks seventh in the league in key passes to date and 14th in expected goals. In his last 23 regular season starts, Ojeda has tallied seven goals and added 12 helpers.
Never Hunt Alone
Orlando City SC has been the premier attacking team in 2025 in MLS action through the first six matches, scoring 15 goals to date, leading the second-place teams, Chicago Fire FC and this weekend’s competition the Philadelphia Union, by two tallies. The Lions are fourth in expected goals, third in shots, tied for first in assists and first in key passes. Going back to 2024, Orlando City has scored at least once in 14 consecutive regular season games, scoring at least twice in 13 of those matches and getting three or more in seven of them. Six different players have found the back of the net for Orlando City in 2025, with four of those players scoring multiple goals.
Goals on the Delaware
The last time the Lions made the trip north to take on the Union on the banks of the Delaware, was May of last season. Designated Player Luis Muriel scored his first two MLS goals for the Lions in the match, including the game-winner just under one minute into the second half, while fellow forward Duncan McGuire also scored. In their last two trips to Chester, Pennsylvania, the Lions have taken two consecutive wins via a 3-2 scoreline in 2024 and a 2-1 scoreline in 2023 and will look to keep the streak alive and get revenge for 2025’s Home Opener.
