DefenderPrior to joining City in the offseason, Alston, 27, featured as a defender for the New England Revolution for the last six years. After signing a Generation Adidas Contract and being selected in the first round of the 2009 MLS SuperDraft, the Washington, D.C., native appeared in 148 games for New England, registering one goal and seven assists – ranking in the team’s career top 10 in appearances (10th) and minutes played (ninth).
Capable of playing both outside back positions, the versatile and pacey defender started the 2010 MLS All-Star Game against English Premier League powerhouse Manchester United and was voted the Revs’ 2010 Best Defender.
Additionally, Alston was named the 2013 MLS WORKS Comeback Player of the Year after being diagnosed with chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) in early April, and returning to the field in late July.
At the international level, the fullback has featured in the U.S. Men’s National Team ranks – being called up to the senior team camps on several occasions and representing the U-17 side at the 2005 FIFA U-17 World Youth Championship and the 2007 Pan Am Games.
