Orlando City SC (2-2-5, 11 points) midfielder Servando Carrasco is excited about this weekend’s away match against Sporting Kansas City (4-5-2, 14 points). The 27 year-old in his sixth season with the MLS spent the first nine games of 2015 with Sporting before being traded to Orlando.
Carrasco said of playing Kansas City, “That’s always a fun game for me. I mean, it’s always fun to play against my friends.” He remembered the squad he played with as, “just a really good group of guys.”
Despite his describing the match up as “fun,” Carrasco isn’t approaching the game with any less intensity. Star Kansas City forward Dom Dwyer, once on loan to Orlando City, is on Carrasco’s radar for the upcoming game. Speaking on Dwyer, Carrasco complimented, “He works the entire game, he does all the dirty work for their team.” He offered a simple solution to Dwyer, though, “You have to… outwork him.”
His affinity for Sporting Kansas City, however, doesn’t change his opinion of the two fan bases. “I’ve been blown away by the fan base [in Orlando]. I mean, since day one.” Asked to compare the two fan bases, Carrasco said, “Very similar, but a lot bigger [in Orlando] in terms of numbers.”
Orlando City SC takes on Sporting Kansas City Sunday, May 15, 2016, at Children’s Mercy Park, scheduled for 3:30 PM ET.
