June 8, 2017 (ORLANDO, Fla.) — On Monday, June 12, the greater Orlando community will come together to remember the terrible act of violence that killed 49 people at Pulse Nightclub one year ago and affected countless other victims.
In support of our City Beautiful, Orlando City SC will join the Orlando United Day – A Day of Love and Kindness, a homegrown movement by the One Orlando Alliance to encourage our community, and those around the world who feel close to us, to honor those affected by the Pulse tragedy by doing something good for someone else.
“It doesn’t matter how big or small your act of kindness is, just share the love on June 12,” Orlando City SC VP of Community Relations Kay Rawlins said. “Our community has shown unprecedented unity since that regretful day. Let’s continue putting our best foot forward and honor the victims by being good to each other.”
As the Club’s official act of kindness, Orlando City Stadium will open its doors from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on June 12 for anyone that wants to pay tribute to the victims at the 49 rainbow seats in the stadium. We will also have #OrlandoUnited t-shirts, scarves and socks available, with 100 percent of proceeds going to the Better Together Fund.
Club staff members will join Rawlins in presenting 49 purple flowers at the official Pulse Nightclub Community Gathering from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Orlando City will also take part in Lake Eola Park Amphitheater Orlando Love: Remembering Our Angels event starting at 7 p.m. that evening.
The week of the anniversary, Orlando City will dedicate its U.S. Lamar Hunt Open Cup match against Miami FC on Wednesday, June 14, and its return to Major League Soccer (MLS) play on Saturday, June 17, against the Montreal Impact to the victims. Both matches will include special presentations and themes to recap City’s efforts.
