Over the past two seasons Orlando City and New England have played five games against each other, each of them having their own memorable moments.
In 2015, the Lions came back from a 2-0 deficit in the first matchup between the two teams to tie the game with a goal from Aurelien Collin, in the 90th minute, for a 2-2 draw.
2016 provided more dramatic finishes. The first matchup in April saw the fastest penalty ever in MLS, scored by Kaka in the second minute, a stoppage time goal by Kevin Molino and a questionable handball call on Servando Carrasco in the 94th minute, which gave the Revs a penalty and a 2-2 draw. The second game saw another comeback by Orlando, this time in New England, with Carlos Rivas scoring a stoppage time equalizer to pull out yet another 2-2 draw.
The most recent game played between the two teams, which was the first game under Head Coach Jason Kreis, saw the Lions come away with their first win in the series. Goals from Cyle Larin and two from Kevin Molino saw Orlando cruise to a 3-1 victory and the first under Kreis.
In total, there have been 19 goals scored between the two teams. In the final 30 minutes of these five games, Orlando has scored have seven goals to New England’s five, with five of the Lions’ goals coming in the final 15 minutes.
Now the two teams are set for their sixth ever matchup, with the series record standing at 1-1-3 for both teams. Kickoff is set for 7:00 from New England, live on TV27.
