ORLANDO, Fla. (April 4, 2019) - Orlando Pride has acquired defender Morgan Reid from the North Carolina Courage in exchange for the Clubâs natural fourth-round pick in the 2020 NWSL College Draft.
âMorgan brings depth to our backline in an important year where weâll be losing up to nine internationals to the Womenâs World Cup,â Orlando Pride General Manager Erik Ustruck said. âShe defends on the front foot, sheâs comfortable with the ball at both feet and likes to attack out of the back. Her versatility will help strengthen the core of our roster and weâre looking forward to seeing how she adapts to our playing style.â
A product of Duke University, Reid was selected in the fourth round (No. 38 overall) of the 2018 NWSL College Draft by the Courage. After missing the opening of the season to complete her degree, Reid was signed as a National Team Replacement Player in 2018. She earned her first minutes for the Courage during the Womenâs International Champions Cup, helping lead North Carolina to the title.
A four-year starter at Duke, Reid made an immediate impact for the Blue Devils, starting all 18 games of her freshman season for a total of 1,386 minutes. In her sophomore year, she helped Duke lead the ACC with 14 shutouts, playing for a total of 1,979 minutes. Reid totaled 23 appearances in her junior year then played 2,311 minutes her senior year, leading the Blue Devils to their fourth NCAA College Cup in school history. A native of Cary, N.C., Reid also has experience with the U.S. U17 and U20 national teams.
Reid will be available for the Pride on Sunday, when the team hosts the Puerto Rico Sol in its final match of the preseason. Complimentary tickets to the 5 p.m. match at Orlando City Stadium are available at orlando-pride.com.
