The Orlando City Academy teams have a major opportunity on the horizon.
Starting this weekend, both the U17 and U15 squads will participate in the 2022 Generation adidas Cup, one of the top youth tournaments in North American soccer. The competition begins April 9 and will run through April 17.
In addition to all 28 MLS clubs, the tournament features seven youth teams from Mexico’s Liga MX, including Cruz Azul, Club América, Tigres, and Monterrey. Clubs from around the globe will be represented as well, including English powerhouse Manchester United, Brazilian giants Flamengo, Italian side AS Roma, and more.
Orlando City’s U17s, who won the national championship at the MLS NEXT Cup last summer, will begin their run on Sunday, April 10 in a marquee matchup against Manchester United. The U17s are also scheduled to face Minnesota United and Chicago Fire FC in group play.
The U15s will arrive a day earlier, taking on the LA Galaxy on Saturday, April 9. They will then battle Toronto FC and Monterrey to round out their end of the group stage.
Both teams are guaranteed to play at least seven matches over the course of the tournament.
