Around MLS: Midweek Round Up

Midweek Around MLS

On Wednesday night, twelve teams faced off in six midweek MLS matches. As the playoff race heats up, some are securing their spots at the top of the table, while others are fighting to stay above the red line. Here are some highlights of who moved up in the table.

Toronto FC v. Orlando City

After defeating Orlando City 2-1 on Wednesday night, Toronto FC is now at the top of the table in the Eastern Conference. At 43 points, they are two points ahead of second place New York City FC, who travel to face Orlando on Sunday. Toronto FC will face their arch rival Montreal on Saturday.

Seattle Sounders v. Houston Dynamo

While the game ended in a 1-1 draw, the point gave the Sounders the extra boost they needed to put themselves in contention for the last playoff spot in the West. Seattle is only two points behind Portland, who currently holds that last playoff spot. The race is heating up, as Portland, San Jose, Seattle, and Vancouver are all within three points of each other.

Philadelphia Union v. Columbus Crew

This has not been the best season for the Crew, but no one can deny the difficulty in taking on a team like the Union. With the recent additions at the end of the summer trade window, including midfielder Alejandro Bedoya, the team seem to be unstoppable. They beat the Crew 2-1, and have only lost one out of their last four MLS matches. They’ll look to rise in the table in the coming weeks, starting with their game against Sporting Kansas City on Saturday.
