On Wednesday, Forward Cyle Larin added another goal to his tally this season. The star striker now has 13 goals, and is tied for fourth place in the race for the Golden Boot. While the match against Toronto FC ended in a disappointing 2-1 loss, Larin had a strong attacking presence and created a lot of opportunities.
“I think the chances were there for him to score,” Head Coach Jason Kreis said after the match. “On a different night, he scores all of them and we walk out of here winners. Tonight he only scored one. The one he scored was quite special though.”
Larin’s attacking game was strong from start to finish, with his first attempted shot in the fifth minute of the match and his final one in stoppage time. Larin managed to find one of those goals in the 55th minute, a header off a pass from defender Luke Boden. In total, he had four shots, two of which were on target.
“I mean, I had a few chances,” Larin said. “But it happens with strikers, you get chances to finish some and you don’t finish others.”
Larin’s final chance came in the last minute of the game, where he had the opportunity to equalizer with a strike from the right side - but it reverberated off the post.
“I had a chance in the last minute of the game,” Larin said with a smile. “I almost had it.”
Kreis isn’t worried at all about the tactical skills of his star striker. “I think for him he just needs to continue to believe, work hard, and take his chances.”
For now, Larin will continue his race for the Golden Boot and focus on the team’s upcoming match against New York City FC (NYCFC) on Sunday. “It’s a game where we’ll go out and fight for three points.”
Orlando City will take on NYCFC on Sunday, August 28th at 7:30pm at Camping World Stadium.
