ORLANDO, Fla. (April 12, 2025) – Orlando City SC (3-2-3, 12 points) played to a scoreless draw against the New York Red Bulls (3-2-3, 12 points) at Inter&Co Stadium on Saturday afternoon. With the draw, the Lions extended their unbeaten streak to five consecutive matches.
Goalkeeper Pedro Gallese recorded back-to-back shutouts following the draw against the Red Bulls. Gallese faced 10 shots but was assisted by the defense as he only had to make one save on the day. The clean sheet marked Gallese’s 50th all-time across all competitions as a Lion. His shutout also serves as the first at home since the Eastern Conference Semifinals against Atlanta United last November.
The Lions' defense was able to combat the efforts of the New York Red Bulls after losing Rodrigo Schlegel to a second yellow card in the 56th minute. Down a man for over 30 minutes, City was able to keep the Red Bulls scoreless through 90 minutes.
City’s attack put up 14 shots on the day. The Lions created various scoring chances in the first half from their Designated Players’ Luis Muriel, Marco Pašalić and Martín Ojeda, with Muriel and Pašalić each recording mulitple shots on goal.
The Lions go international as they make a trip north next Saturday, April 19, for a showdown against CF Montréal. Kickoff on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV from Stade Saputo is set for 7:30 p.m. ET.
Head Coach Oscar Pareja:
“I thought after the performance, especially that we had in the first half and part of the second half until the red card came, we felt that we lost those two points. It was a team that we dominated, but this is another experience that we have to learn from. How can we kill those games when we have the chances and be precise and lethal? We are good when we are in that mode. Unfortunately, today we weren’t. After that I have to say that the willingness of the players and the commitment to the game, and you saw all the metrics, and that performance is probably the best that we have had against this club. We really feel that that precision just kept us away from winning those three points. Obviously, it is another story when the red card came, and obviously [New York Red Bulls] pushed and then we had to congest a little bit in the middle of the field. Then it was another game played there; it was not the same game.”
