Orlando City is off to a fantastic start this season, winning four out of their first five matches. Since their Week Two matchup against the New England Revolution got rescheduled due to weather, the Lions have only played one game on the road and it proved to be their only loss. This weekend’s trip to New York is a chance for Orlando City to carry that momentum onto the road.
Head Coach Jason Kreis has talked extensively about his team’s path to success. He knows that there are going to be bumps in the road. He was interested to see how his team would react after their first loss -- they came roaring back with a 1-0 win over the New York Red Bulls. He was interested to see how they would react after conceding a late equalizer this weekend against the L.A Galaxy -- they scored the winner in extra time and emerged victorious.
For Kreis’ squad, this weekend could prove to be another test.
Thankfully, the Lions have a good history against New York City FC. They’ve only lost to them once, and that was back in 2015. In the past two seasons, Orlando City has proven that they can beat NYCFC on the road, but New York is on a hot streak too, losing just one game this season-- their opener in Orlando.
A lot has changed since Orlando City’s Week Four loss against the Columbus Crew. The team is more cohesive, more united in their vision both on the field and off the field. And the Lions will always show that passion against their rivals in the Big Apple. They’re ready to face whatever awaits them at Yankee Stadium.
