ORLANDO, Fla. (Feb. 18, 2025) – Orlando City SC and Nico Lodeiro have mutually agreed to terminate the midfielder’s contract, it was announced today. Lodeiro will no longer occupy a Senior Roster Spot, and his previous wages will not count against the Club’s 2025 salary budget. Orlando City has utilized one of the Club’s two buyouts of a guaranteed contract on Lodeiro.

“This was certainly a difficult decision as Nico has been a great addition to the team since joining us at the beginning of last season,” said Orlando City EVP of Soccer Operations and General Manager Luiz Muzzi. “Ultimately, we feel this is the best move for both the team and Nico at this time. Nico has integrated in such a seamless way that it feels like he's been part of our Club for much longer than just one season. On top of being a tremendous player and teammate, Nico is a fantastic human being. Our doors will always be open to Nico, and we hope he can one day rejoin us and be an integral part of the Club's future."

Lodeiro, 35, made 19 starts in 46 appearances across one season in all competitions with the Lions, scoring two goals and providing 13 assists. On the international level, Lodeiro represented Uruguay in two FIFA World Cups, in South Africa in 2010 and later in Brazil in 2014. He was also a member of the Uruguayan squad that claimed the Copa America trophy in 2011. A native of Paysandú, Uruguay, also represented his nation in the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
