Orlando City SC Defender Kyle Smith Inked to New Deal

ORLANDO, Fla. (March 29, 2021) — Orlando City SC defender Kyle Smith has signed a new contract with the Club, it was announced today. The 29-year-old has signed a two-year deal, with a Club option in 2023, keeping him in Orlando for the foreseeable future.


“We’re very excited to keep a player as tenacious and versatile as Kyle around for another few years,” said EVP of Soccer Operations Luiz Muzzi. “Continuing to solidify the future of our defense has been a priority this year and Kyle has shown himself ready to do whatever is needed of him. ‘El Soldado’, as Oscar [Pareja] calls him, is always ready for war.”


Smith joined the Lions ahead of their 2019 season when he was signed from Louisville City of the USL Championship. In his first two seasons in Orlando, Smith started in 28 of his 41 appearances, providing one assist. 


In 2020, the Cincinnati native appeared in all four of City’s single-elimination matches at the MLS is Back Tournament and both Audi MLS Cup Playoff matches. Against LAFC in the MLS is Back Tournament, Smith converted in the penalty kick shootout, helping the Lions to advance further in the tournament.
