Orlando City SC selected defender Scott DeVoss in the third round of the of the 2019 MLS SuperDraft presented by adidas on Monday afternoon.
DeVoss, 22, joins City after four years at the University of Denver, where he was awarded the Summit League Defensive Player of the Year in back-to-back seasons his junior and senior year.
The Kansas-born defender appeared and started in 83 matches across four seasons at Denver. His 83 starts, all which came at center back, are the most in Denver’s Division I history. He also tied for the record for most appearances in Denver’s Division I history with Andre Shinyashiki and Sam Hamilton.
DeVoss recorded six goals, two of them game-winners and notched one assist in his collegiate career. He was part of a senior class that accumulated a 61-12-10 record, the fifth-most wins of any Division I program in the country over the four-year span.
In addition, he won seven Summit League trophies over the course of his tenure, leading the Pioneers to their first College Cup appearance in 2016. In his final year at Denver, he was selected Summit League Tournament MVP and won Summit League First Team honors in 2017 and 2018.
DeVoss, who grew up in Centennial, Colorado, spent two seasons with the Real Colorado Development Academy prior to joining the University of Denver.
